Pastor Sarah Omakwu , the Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre, Abuja, has revealed that one of the reasons singles keep postponing getting married is the financial burden that comes with organising weddings.
She said, people worry themselves too much about organising an elaborate wedding. Adding that having an elaborate wedding is not mandatory, if you cannot bring it down to what you can manage, she said.
Pastor Omakwu used her wedding as an example. The FWC senior pastor said, she got married to her husband in the USA. Her hubby didn’t have the money to pay for her wedding dress and a lady had to loan hers which eventually matched her
She explained more:
” We got married in America. He didn’t have money for my wedding dress. A lady loaned me her wedding dress and it fitted me. We married in a church officiated by Dr Grizzle. After the wedding, they served kool- Aid outside in the foyer. It’s one drink like vitamin c, it’s just sugar, colour and water and they sprinkled orange juice on it and people took it
“One of the reasons many singles are postponing marriage is the fear of the financial burden attached to weddings.
“If you cannot afford an elaborate wedding, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a simple one. You do not need a large reception, expensive decorations, or asoebi to begin your journey together.

“You don’t have to do this foolish thing they are doing with elaborate wedding, ‘spending 30,40,60 million naira on a wedding and after six months you are divorced”.
