Relationship expert Funmi Ovie Daniels, has advised married couples to learn how to defend their spouses in every situation. This, she said, only shows that the couple are united.
The counselor advised further that couples should not make it easy for other people to pull their partners down by saying demeaning things about their spouses.
Daniels added that it’s important for couples to settle their issues privately, instead of making it a public matter for discussion
Daniels wrote:
“Learn to defend your spouse in rooms where they are not physically present. This is one way you show that you are united as a couple.
“Do not make it easy for people to pull your spouse down, disrespect them or speak badly about them when you are present. Address your issues privately, but do not join others in tearing your spouse down.
“Protect the unity of your marriage, even when your spouse is not in the room.
“Your spouse should be able to trust that you will protect their dignity even when they are not in the room.
“Being united as a couple does not mean pretending your spouse is perfect rather it means you do not become part of conversations that tear them down”.
