From bosom of your hungry homes

Ezekiel Fajenyo

Stolen from bosom of your hungry homes,
through forests of darkening madness

You were sent as goods to Burkina Faso,
hawked on bush paths and sold

Kidnappers are money engineers
in the rudiments of their profession:

They are yet to tell us
in Zamfara and Katsina states
how much you were bought in open markets
and the mystery of your joyless trips.

Let them tell us
how fulfilled your buyers were
to swell the ranks of human merchants
in warehouses of cursed hearts.

Now that you are back
in the dark orbit of your muddy homes,
don’t fail to tell us more
the sweetness of your Burkina Faso sojourn
and we shall know the recent complexion
of 21st century slavery.
