Movie great Danny Glover has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
He spoke with NBCs Lester Holt saying he has been living with the progressively degenerative disease. Glover 79, featured in several movies including Lethal weapon.
When asked if he fears losing his senses, he answered that he is sure such may happen as the ailment progresses.
His daughter hinted that Glover shared his story with the feeling that it will throw more light and remove the stigma arising from the ailment.
Research say over 7m Americans of over 65 years are currently suffering from alzheimers.
Globally speaking, about 55 million people are afflicted with alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
It accounts for over 70% of dementia cases and is the seventh leading cause of death globally.
With nearly 10 million new cases diagnosed annually, this number is projected to surge to 139 million by 2050.
Aside from Glover acting in many films like Escape from Alcatraz in 1979, he rose to fame in the late 1980s for playing Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon film series. Glover’s other notable films include Places in the Heart (1984), The Color Purple (1985), Witness (1985), To Sleep with Anger (1990), Predator 2 (1990).
However, Nigerians remember him very well for visiting Nigeria at the invitation of Peace Anyiam Osigwe led Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA)for its first edition held 2006 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
